Shougang Ski Jumping Center: A Landmark Venue for the Beijing Winter Olympics
The Shougang Ski Jumping Center is the venue for the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard Ski Jumping events at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Construction of the center began in December 2018, and it was completed ahead of schedule in January 2020. The venue was officially finished by October 31, 2019.
The Shougang Ski Jumping Center consists of three main parts: the track, the judges’ tower, and the seating area. The track is 164 meters long, 34 meters wide at its widest point, and reaches a height of 60 meters. Athletes will perform aerial acrobatics, flips, and spins after descending from the jump. During the Beijing Winter Olympics, four gold medals were up for grabs at this venue.
The Shougang Ski Jumping Center is located in the northern section of the Shougang Industrial Park. The surrounding old factory buildings and industrial structures were renovated and transformed to support the venue’s event services, while preserving the historical significance of the Shougang industrial heritage. After the Winter Olympics, the Shougang Ski Jumping Center became the world’s first permanent ski jumping venue to remain in use for future competitions. It now hosts domestic and international ski jumping events, serves as a training facility for professional athletes and teams, and acts as a base for selecting and developing young talent. It will also serve as a training base for event management personnel.
Additionally, the Shougang Ski Jumping Center has become a key landmark and leisure destination for the public, offering a sports-themed park for fitness and recreation, further contributing to the development of winter sports in China
